X Factor - Alisha Bennett has jailbird mum
The mother of X Factor finalist Alisha Bennett is an ex-jailbird who was found guilty of credit card fraud.
The Sun has revealed how Alisha's mum was locked up for close to three years when the wannabe singer was 13.
It meant Alisha - now 23 - had to be ferried between her relatives and her mum's best friend as she had nowhere else to live at the time.
"We've put it behind us," she told the newspaper. "Mum's my biggest fan and we're so close that she's like my big sister."
The heartbreaking background of an X Factor contestant is not a rare thing on the show, as many of the singers have a sob story to tell.
Beverly Trotman, who wowed audiences and the judges recently with her cover of James Blunt's weepy You're Beautiful, was abandoned as a baby and tearfully explained to viewers how it had affected her.
In the same age group (the over-25s) is Niki Evans, who found her X Factor application form with her deceased dad's papers. She regularly cries during the show in memory of her father and moved the judges with her audition piece.
