Sharon Osbourne disses Dannii Minogue over X-Factor

Hostilities have broken out yet again on British TV show The X-Factor.

Sharon Osbourne has announced that her co-host Dannii Minogue is only on the program "because of her looks".

"She [Dannii] knows she's there because of her looks, not because of her contribution to the music industry," she said on BBC TV's The Graham Norton Show.

"She's younger, she's better-looking, Simon [Cowell, the program's anchor] wants her and he doesn't want me - thank God."

The claims came at the end of a bad week for Minogue, whose new single failed to chart in the UK's top 20.

Minogue had earlier departed the set of this week's program following comments by The X-Factor's third judge, Louis Walsh. Osbourne was shown laughing as he attacked Minogue junior's singing skills.

This is not the first time that the judges have fallen out but Osbourne has denied that the clash was stage-managed.

She told a Channel 4 chat show that the atmosphere backstage on the reality TV program is "like a soap opera".

" I said to Simon ... it's like bloody Dynasty now.

"It's terrible you know, you have to duck going down the hallway to your dressing room in case there's a little spear that gets you in the back of the neck.

"You walk in and it's like 'oh dear what's the atmosphere going to be like?"'

But in a subsequent press conference for the show yesterday, Osbourne played down her earlier comments.

"We were doing a comedy sketch and were having fun. Why not?

"It's an open playing field. Dannii says things about me, I speak things about her.

"But we respect each other enough that, when we see each other, it's like round one, round two - and I think we're up to round 10."

For her part, Minogue would only say: "Unfortunately, if you put two women on a show, then people want to see a cat fight."
