IDOL BEAT: Bringing sexy back – with a fiddle, dobro and a mandolin.
In case you missed it, The Clark Brothers walked away with the win on the “Next Great American Band.”
The top three bands that were competing for the crown, Denver and the Mile High Orchestra, Sixwire and the Clark Brothers, are all accomplished musicians – any of them could have easily won (and are getting a lot of attention), except the key ingredient was missing in the first two bands – the “IT” factor.
The Clark Brothers not only have “IT” but gosh darn it; they make a fiddle, a dobro and a mandolin sexy. All you have to do is watch Ashley work his fiddle or Austin tear up the strings on his dobro. He broke a string while playing “Billy the Kid,” and didn’t miss a beat as well as playing the best slide guitar I have ever heard on “Gimme Shelter.”
I just love to watch Adam plucking the mandolin into a frenzy. I really don’t know if you pluck a mandolin but whatever he does to that tiny stringed instrument, it sounds incredible.
But, honestly, what makes them sexy is that they have no awareness of their sex appeal. They are God-fearing, dog-in-the-back-of-the-truck driving, down home boys, where God, family and open spaces call their names. To be able to play music with their brothers is what led them to audition for the show and give up their gigs they had with other bands.
By winning the NGAB competition, the Clark Brothers receive a record contract with the same people that have made Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry stars, 19 Entertainment. They are the force behind “American Idol” and have the power and financial backing to make them household names.
I am hoping as many others are, that the Clark Brothers will make a guest appearance on American Idol and show the rest of the world who missed this great new show, just how incredibly gifted (and sexy.) they are.
Don’t forget – season 7 of American Idol kicks off on Jan. 15 and 16, a four-hour season premiere at 7 p.m. I can’t wait to find out if Alexandrea Lushington, the 16-year-old I interviewed in Atlanta has made it.
Another potential contestant is 17-year-old David Archuleta. You might remember him from “Star Search.” He was a winner at age 12.
