Idol Lesson: Blimey! We May Already Have a Winner

This just in: Two years ago, Miss Paula Abdul predicted the winner of this season of American Idol. And no, she is not joining Latoya Jackson or Miss Cleo on the psychic friends hotline, so allow me explain.

Before season five (yes, five) of American Idol began, I spent a day with Paula in Las Vegas for an E! shoot, and during it, she told me repeatedly about this "gorgeous Irish singing sensation" named Carly who would "blow everyone away." She said she never gave early predictions but in this case, she had a very strong feeling that Carly would “go all the way” because she was that good.

Well, fast forward to tonight’s American Idol where—shazam!—finally, the mystery of what happened to that Irish girl was solved. We learned that Irish powerhouse Carly Smithson (the final audition in San Diego who sang "I'm Every Woman") was disqualified two years ago because of visa problems. But now she’s tatted up and married and legal-like and ready to head to Hollywood for the new season.

So... is the ghost of Paula past right? Does Carly have what it takes to make it to the very end? Or was Simon right? Was she "better two years ago"? (Sidenote: Paula told me Simon believes the winner of American Idol should be, in fact, American...Interesting point.)

And more importantly, can anyone please explain Alberto Hurtado (the giant "fan" maker) to me? Seriously, that guy broke my heart! If you see him, please give him a hug.
