'American Idol' judging panel in a grumpy mood after too much Beatles

Now that the "American Idol" finalists are done defiling the Beatles' sacred songbook, maybe we can raise the bar just a bit. Here's a quick rundown of what our Readers Judging Panel thought of last week's developments and their expectations for tonight's show (8 p.m., Channels 2 and 40). Also, please welcome Colleen Gonzalez, our guest judge for the week.

Last week: Though Carly Smithson is not my cup of tea, I was shocked to see her in the bottom three. Good riddance to Amanda Overmyer. She and her tongue didn't belong.

Looking ahead: Jason Castro and Chikezie are going to have to really deliver to stay in the fray. I'm excited about the list of mentors on deck. Especially Neil Diamond. I love him!

Last week: Michael Johns, not Carly, deserved to be in the bottom three, and Kristy Lee Cook deserved to leave. Unfortunately, we live in a twisted world where the least talented singers get a free ride, Kelly Pickler included.

Looking ahead: Tonight will be a breath of fresh air if nobody sings a Beatles song, or busts out a harmonica. I predict that Michael Johns will give another mediocre performance, but get by because of his Aussie accent, and that Kristy will butcher another song I once loved.
