Whatever Happened To Natalie Gauci'
got this from undercover.com.au
Does anyone remember last year’s Australian Idol winner Natalie Gauci'
Natalie`s one and only album to date was nothing more than songs from the show and it failed at retail.
Her own album is a long-time coming.
Natalie`s career has been caught up in the red tape that labels like to call “artist development”.
She has been clocking up recoupable debts by working in the studio in Sydney on a writing expedition but that is so far only at demo stage. That is the most expansive way to make an album. Songs don`t magically appear because you are in a studio. Debts do.
The next step for Natalie is the expensive overseas “writing trip” which will also go on her recording budget as recoupable. (That`s right Nat, YOU will be paying for not only your own airfare, but for everyone else who goes with you, and all the hotel bills and meals as well as all of that studio time clocked up so far).
Natalie`s compilation album `The Winner`s Journey` was the lowest selling album since Australian Idol began. She didn`t make a cent out of it.
By working with supposed top-shelf writers, Natalie`s booty for paying back those recoupables will be even more diminished from the start. She will owe from day one.
There is another Idol on the way soon. It has already been crippled by the withdrawal of its major sponsor Telstra and the dislikeable Vile Sandilands acting like he has any idea about music or talent. How is your girlfriend`s album coming along Vile'
A word of warning to kids going into this the new season, don`t do it unless you have a lawyer go over the contract for you. Do not sign your life away under the illusion you will win fame. Fame cannot be won, it can only be earned.
Learn from the Natalie`s and Casey`s of the world. There is no short cut to fame.
