Wes Carr fears curse of Idol favourite
WES Carr hasn't hit a wrong note on Australian Idol, but he fears his frontrunner status may work against him.
"Australia has that underdog thing and I have thought that being the favourite could be a curse," Carr, 26, said yesterday at the unit he shares with his actress-girlfriend Charlotte Gregg.
Sportingbet Australia has Carr at odds of $1.50, making him the frontrunner to win the sixth season of the Network Ten series.
They are the shortest ever odds for this stage of the competition, with Melbourne's Mark Spanno priced at $4.80 to win, followed by Luke Dickens ($6) and Teale Jakubenko ($12).
"I am not much of a gambling man," said Sydney-based Carr.
"I have just been treating the show like a personal best every week."
Judge Ian "Dicko" Dickson agreed that being the favourite was a difficult position to be in.
"I think everyone thought Anthony Callea was going to win hands down over Casey Donovan and he didn't," he said.
Dicko said Carr would be worthy of the top prize.
"I don't think he has done a single bad performance," he said.
Carr has spent years playing pubs, and previously recorded an album with band Tambalane, featuring Silverchair's Ben Gillies.
Win or no win, Carr said he was already planning his solo debut.
