Australian Idol's ratings idle
CHANNEL 10 has scored disappointing ratings for Sunday's Australian Idol finale.
One of Ten's most-hyped events of the year, the finale won by Natalie Gauci attracted 1.45 million viewers nationally.
Half of the 18-49-year-old audience -- Ten's target market -- watching commercial TV were tuned to Idol, but its overall ratings were poor compared with previous years.
The finale in 2006, which featured Damien Leith's win, delivered 2.2 million viewers, while Guy Sebastian's win in 2003 peaked at 3.65 million and was that year's top-rating program.
But the network is sticking with the franchise next year.
"Even after five years, this show is as much a part of Australia's television landscape as ever," programming chief David Mott said.
