Idol auditions begin in January

Auditions for the sixth season of Canadian Idol begin Jan. 26 in a yet-to-be announced city, CTV said yesterday. Auditions will hit 10 cities in seven provinces.

An original KITT – the talking car that helped David Hasselhoff escape bad guys on the '80s TV series Knight Rider – is for sale on eBay. The 1984 Pontiac Trans Am is being sold to satisfy the debts of a slain real estate developer, whose killing last year is unsolved.

Tom Green's Internet show, shot in his Hollywood home, is getting remade for television. Tom Green's House Tonight debuts Jan. 7 at 11 p.m. on the Comedy Network.

CTV has ordered two new Canadian drama series, the elite police force show Sniper, starring Enrico Colantoni and Hugh Dillon, and The Listener, about a telepathic paramedic (Toby Logan). The Listener's pilot was directed by Clement Virgo.

Global has a new drama of its own premiering Jan. 22 at 10 p.m.: The Guard, about members of the Canadian Coast Guard's search and rescue team.

After being released from his Sony Music deal earlier this year, rapper DMX has signed a deal with the music division of Canadian online gaming company Bodog Entertainment. DMX plans to release his next two albums in 2008 via Bodog.

Nearly five years after his arrest in the shooting death of actor Lana Clarkson, music producer Phil Spector is still trying to get a refund of a $1 million fee he paid to his first lawyer, according to a lawsuit filed Wednesday. This marks the second time that Spector has sued Robert Shapiro, claiming the attorney cheated him and used their personal relationship to enrich himself unjustly.

R. Kelly avoided arrest yesterday by showing up in court, but the judge presiding over his child pornography case said he'll consider revoking the singer's bond despite his excuse: that police made him late. Judge Vincent Gaughan said he was "very disappointed" that Kelly failed to show up for a scheduled Wednesday appearance.

Lou Reed will serve as the keynote speaker for the 2008 South by Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Tex.
