Ohioan among 24 to survive
NEW YORK -- Tears flowed on American Idol on Wednesday night as the show trimmed the competition to 24 semifinalists.
They were mostly happy tears for the 12 men and 12 women who made the cut on the final night of Hollywood week. Among the male winners is Garrett Haley of Elida, near Lima in northwestern Ohio.
Other winners included teen singing prodigy David Archuleta and Janis Joplin sound-alike Amanda Overmyer.
Brooke White, who claimed in her audition to have never seen an R-rated movie, was beside herself with emotion before learning her fate from Simon Cowell and company. She also advanced.
