Idol judges offer top tips for final contenders
The final five Canadian Idol contestants are the best ever, say the judges - no, really, this time they mean it.
Sizing up Mitch MacDonald, Mookie Morris, Earl Stevenson, Theo Tams and Drew Wright, Idol judge Jake Gold says, "I feel we have some contestants that actually have real long-term potential in the music industry.''
Which hasn't necessarily been the case in previous years, even for the Idol winners, as far as Gold is concerned. Out of all the top three contestants in each of the previous five seasons, only one has been successful, he points out: Jacob Hoggard, who came in third in season 2 and is the lead singer for Hedley.

"Even if you win, it doesn't mean you're going to have a career,'' says Gold. "All we're creating is a platform. It's up to you to take it to another level.''
Despite those grim odds, some of this season's Idol hopefuls just might have what it takes not only to win, but to take it to that other level, Gold believes.
"It's a race to the finish now,'' says fellow judge Farley Flex.
But that doesn't mean they don't need all the help they can get to snag the Idol crown. Gold and Flex do their part by offering their tips for the final five.
