Sophie Paterson slams Australian Idol knockers
Australian Idol eliminee Sophie Paterson has struck out at former contestant Jonny Taylor who whinged after leaving the show that its format was "stifling".
Taylor has told media the program’s obsession with singing cover songs was stifling for singer-songwriters.
But Paterson, a keen songwriter, said the show's format had helped her.
“I think it's been really interesting doing the different genres and it’s great for the show and it’s great for people to watch to see (contestants) sing something that they know,” the 23-year-old told LIVENEWS.com.au
“The whole thing has made me realise what I want to do with my own stuff and the kind of artist I want to be and cemented in my head the kind of style and sound that I want.”
The Ani DiFranco fan, who auditioned for Idol in the show’s first ever London audition, now plans to head to Melbourne to perform with her band.
The former KFC worker was a frequent flyer in the show’s 'bottom three' relegation zone and had been expected to be shown the door for some weeks.
But at least Paterson got to see teenage singer of the moment Gabriella Cilmi perform before she left the 'Idol Mansion' on Sydney’s North Shore. The 17-year-old, who dominated the ARIA awards, performed her hit Save the Lies (Good To Me).
Bookmakers are expecting Gold Coast singer Teale Jakubenko to follow Sophie Paterson out of the competition next week.
Online bookmakers Sportingbet Australia believes Jakubenko’s style is the least suited to next Sunday’s ‘Rolling Stones’ theme.
“All of the other Idol contenders have a harder edge to their voices.” says Sportingbet’s Michael Sullivan.
“Our punters backed Teale to go before last week’s show and we’re expecting more of the same this week.”
Bondi’s favourite son, Wes Carr, remains favourite to take out the show.
