Eoghan spears a spot in the last four of X Factor
Dungiven's Eoghan Quigg is one step closer to his dream of pop stardom after reaching the X Factor semi finals.
Despite a lukewarm reception from the judges for his rendition of a Britney Spears hit during Saturday night’s live performance, the teenager has now reached the last four surviving acts.
However, he has drifted to third favourite with the bookmakers with Alexandra Burke now a firm favourite to win after wowing the judges and the public at the weekend.
Eoghan admitted that he felt uncomfortable while performing ‘Sometimes’ by American superstar Spears, who also performed on the show. He received his first negative comments of the series with his own mentor, Simon Cowell describing the performance as only “OK”.
However, he rebounded with his second song when he was joined by a large number of dancers on the stage for a high school musical-style performance.
However, Eoghan had a nervous wait during the results show as he was the last act to be declared safe in the public vote which eliminated Ruth Lorenzo.
The Spanish singer bowed out gracefully after receiving the least amount of public votes.
She said: “I fought with all my heart, with everything I had. And this doesn’t end here. This is the beginning of my dream. All I can say is thank you so much. I never ever dreamed of this ever.”
The show also saw Britney Spears making her first UK television performance in over four years.
Dressed all in black, with hotpants, fishnet tights and knee-high boots, the pop singer mimed her way through her current single Womanizer.
And despite a few problems synching her lips in time to the music, it was a vibrant dance performance.
Speaking afterwards, she said: “I love being here in London, it’s awesome.”
And her advice to the contestants was: “Good luck and just keep doing it.”
