‘Idols’ road show now on our screens
THE search for South Africa’s newest singing talent started in earnest last night with the opening broadcast of the fifth season of Idols.
Idols fans saw an hour- long synopsis of the dramatic selection of all the show’s second-phase contestants .
It was also a case of “out with the old, in with the new” as presenter Liezel van der Westhuizen replaced Colin Moss.
Moss, however, still promoted the Idols new season because Van der Westhuizen’s contract with rival broadcaster SABC did not end until Saturday.
“It was my last day on Saturday. I had to leave SABC3 [because it] would have been a conflict of interest, because they are two different stations,” she said.
Van der Westhuizen said she had never seen so much talent .
“The whole thing has been absolutely amazing ,” she said.
Contestants and viewers can watch more Idols Extra auditions, which continue until March 1, on DStv channel 198.
