Australian Idol’s Super Sundays

This year Australian Idol will take on an exciting new shape with Super Sunday episodes. These two-hour shows will see both performances and eliminations air during one exciting weekly event.

An international Idol first, Australian Idol Super Sundays will be jam packed with all the drama of the cliffhanging verdict and the excitement of the Idol's performances, and for the first time the voting lines will actually open during the show.

The live two-hour shows will feature guest judges and industry mentors throughout the season, alongside judges Dicko and Marcia. Andrew G will be flying solo as the host of Australian Idol and Ricki-Lee Coulter will be there to offer her support to the contestants.

Auditions
Premiering August 9, Australian Idol's Super Sundays will start off with the highs and lows of the Australian Idol national audition tour. 2009 saw Idol stop off in more cities and towns than ever before to unearth the very best talent Australia has to offer, with our judges at the helm. Episode 1 features guest judge Brian McFadden, while the second auditions episode welcomes Delta Goodrem to the judging table.

Top 100 – Top 24 and Semi-Finals
The Top 100 round kicks off at the Sydney Theatre Company and features a climatic live performance, which received two standing ovations. The resulting Top 24 will not only sing live in front of a packed Sydney audience during five exciting nights of semi-finals, but also be surprised by one-on-one meetings with Delta and Sony record company execs. Each night of the semi-finals, viewers at home will choose to keep their favourite two Idols.

Wild card
Eight contestants will be back for a second shot at the Top 12 in the wild card show, after which the Australian Idol Final 12 will be revealed for 2009.

The Show
The following Australian Idol Super Sundays will kick off with exclusive performances from our guest mentors and/or Idols. Straight after the big opener, there’ll be a nail-biting elimination, when one of our Idols will sing for one last time. The Idols will then raise the roof again with the iconic individual Idol LIVE performances to prove their worthiness for this year's title. Throughout the show you will be reminded how to support your favourite Idol.

There will be new musical themes, international and local mentors, and celebrity guest judges. Instruments will once again play an important role for the contestants and as always, the Idol contestants have full creative control over their song choices and musical arrangements, along with guidance from Idol's Musical Director and Vocal Coach.

Week by week, the number of performers will be reduced by one until the Australian public is presented with our two favourite Idols, competing for the coveted title of Australian Idol.
