Hooray for 'Idol' Hollywood week

It is time, once again, to get down to business and say good-bye to those nails-on-a-chalkboard-screeching, kooky-costume-wearing, scary-eyeballs-glaring, couldn't-find-a-tune-to-save-their-lives "American Idol" wanna-bes.

The open audition episodes are over now, and Hollywood week is beginning.

More than 160 young men and women nabbed a coveted golden ticket during the cattle-call portion of the Fox series that continues to draw viewers to the screen like flies to honey.

Tonight, you'll see how the cream of the crop fared in La-La Land. Wednesday night, the top 24 finalists will be revealed.

For local "Idol" watchers, this means it's time to cross your fingers and hope for another LaKisha Jones -- a great set of pipes with a Michigan connection who'll make us feel a little more invested in the show.

Last season, LaKisha landed in the top 24 and, initially, her hometown was listed as Ft. Meade, Md. But the real scoop emerged very quickly. The Flint native may have lived in other places for a while, but her heart belonged to her church, her schools and her relatives from the land of Michael Moore.
