Yakking with 'Idol' sweetheart Jordin Sparks
The year is off to a thrilling start for last year's "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks. Two weeks ago, she wowed the crowd -- and the worldwide audience -- when she sang the national anthem at the Super Bowl. It was an especially big honor for Jordin because the game was held in her hometown of Glendale, Arizona, plus her dad is a former New York Giants football player.
Jordin looked poised and beautiful on the outside, but inside she was a different story.
"You know, I've never been more scared to perform anything in my life actually," she confessed. "I couldn't believe it. I was in my hometown. My dad's team was playing. It was a big deal because we're such a huge football family. To be able to sing at the Super Bowl was a huge, huge honor."
Speaking of Idol, Jordin brought along last year's runner-up Blake Lewis for support. But before you get any ideas, Jordin said, "We're just friends. He's like the only person I know in L.A." So they sometimes hang out. In fact, Jordin keeps in contact with several Idol alumni including Melinda Doolittle, Chris Richardson and Sanjaya Malakar, who all helped out at a charity event during Super Bowl week.
"American Idol" is on TV tonight and has finished the early auditions. Now the top contestants are in Hollywood. Jordin has been a fan all the years that Idol has been on. And although she can't always tune in, her mom TiVos the show for her.
