Australian Idol judge quits

Australian Idol judge Mark Holden has quit the reality singing program to focus on acting, radio and documentary production.

Holden, who has been a judge on Idol since it began in 2003, announced his decision to leave the Network Ten show to pursue other activities.

"Working on Idol has been an exceptional, challenging and gratifying experience," Holden said in a statement.

"I'm really proud of what we've achieved but it's time for me to look at doing other things."

The former soap star and singer was famous on the talent quest for his zany catch phrases, such as "goony goo goo" and "touchdown".

He is currently in rehearsals for the stage show Shout, at the Lyric Theatre in Sydney.

Network Ten said it agreed to release Holden from his judging duties after reaching an agreement that he remain with the network.
