GIRLS Aloud star Cheryl Cole dropped into Cardiff to check out this year’s Welsh X Factor hopefuls yesterday.
Cheryl, 25, checked into Cardiff Bay’s St David’s Hotel with fellow judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue. They then made their way to the Holland House Hotel, in Cardiff, to whittle down this year’s contestants.
The singers who make it through this round will be put through to the tough boot-camp stage. Cheryl is reported to be earning £250,000 as a judge, after she replaced Sharon Osbourne who quit the show last month.
But one onlooker said the singer was looking painfully thin after tabloid reports her footballer husband Ashley Cole cheated on her. Rachel Mannings, 32, said: “She’s a beautiful girl but there’s hardly anything of her anymore – she’s wasting away.”
An X Factor spokesman said the judges had high hopes for Wales. She said: “The auditions were great, and the judges are all excited about the talent they’ve found in Cardiff. They are expecting to unearth more great singers from Wales, especially after finding Rhydian there last year.”
