Idol judges escape chop

All eyes are on Australian Idol this year to see whether a revamped version of the show can bounce back to prominence after a lacklustre year featuring Natalie Gauci and Matt Corby. Both singers are yet to release a solo album.

So how will producers rescue the show? A source has revealed that major international stars will appear on the series as mentors and guests. Stevie Wonder has been lined up as a guest in October but executives are aiming for a female superstar for the final show: Beyonce Knowles has been asked to appear at the Idol finale in Sydney on November 23.

There has been a lukewarm reaction from Beyonce's management in the US. "It's not looking promising with Beyonce but we may end up with someone like Kelly Rowland appearing at the Opera House," the source said.

Mark Holden was the first casualty of sweeping changes made to the program this year but a well-placed television source has revealed the other Idol judges - particularly Marcia Hines and Dicko - were lucky to escape the chopping block.
