American Idol castoff Tim Urban crash lands on Letterman

Tim Urban’s ride finally came to an end on American Idol last week when voters decided that the top five contestants would not include him, but he gets a consolation prize tonight as he appears on the Late Show with David Letterman. Urban’s performance during “inspirational songs” week wasn’t enough to keep him on Idol, as voters instead favored fellow contestants Crystal Bowersox, Lee Dewyze, Siobhan Magnus, Michael Lynche, and Aaron Kelly (any bets on which of those last two is headed to Letterman’s couch next week?), and the five of them will now head into Shania Twain week without him.

Also appearing on Letterman with Tim Urban will be Dr. Phil McGraw, former NFL head coach and current TV football analyst Jon Gruden (presumably to discuss this past weekend’s 2010 NFL Draft), and saxophonist David Sanborn.
