"American Idol" judge Randy Jackson spreads the word on diabetes awareness.
Out of all of Randy Jackson's collaborators, a who's who club that includes Madonna, Mariah Carey and Bruce Springsteen, Barbara Johnson may be the unlikeliest member. The 52-year-old Chanhassen resident works in software marketing, not rock 'n' roll. The closest she's ever gotten to the public spotlight is playing Mama Mae in her high school's production of "Bye, Bye Birdie."
But Johnson and the "American Idol" judge have one thing in common: diabetes.
Jackson, a public spokesman for the American Heart Association, and Johnson reunited last Saturday at Bank restaurant in downtown Minneapolis, months after they teamed up to tape a public-service announcement that urges people to visit both their doctor and the website Iknowdiabetes.com.
