Ex-bad boy's go-go past is relived, then serenaded
"AMERICAN IDOL' | Cook had Simon with brilliant 'Hello'
"American Idol" has been pretty good this season at defusing any scandals the minute they pop up. They had Carley Smithson talk about her previous record deal. David Archuleta mentioned winning "Star Search" and having once performed for first-season "Idol" contestants including Kelly Clarkson.
David Hernandez's previous gig as a stripper allegedly not afraid of going "the full Monty"? Not so much.
Tuesday night, the remaining eight male contestants took on the music of the '80s. The closest we came to an admission: Hernandez's decent take on Meat Loaf's "It's All Coming Back to Me Now."
"You're finding your niche," Paula Abdul told him.
The next closest: Luke Menard's falsetto performance of the Wham! hit "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go."
Best of the night: David Cook's emo take on Lionel Richie's "Hello."
"David, that was a brilliant thing to do and I loved it," Simon Cowell said.
The bottom three: It's been time for Menard to go-go for two weeks. He'll probably be joined by Danny Noriega, whose performance of Soft Cell's "Tainted Love" was tainted with low notes he struggled to reach. Jason Castro was also less than heavenly with Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah."
The girls take the stage at 7 tonight on WFLD-Channel 32. Four more contestants will be sent home on Thursday's results show.
