Crystal Bowersox almost quits 'American Idol,' but Ryan Seacrest saves the day

Crystal Bowersox was singing her swan song on "American Idol" two weeks ago until Ryan Seacrest came along.

This season's frontunner was about to quit the competition when the show's host changed her mind, TMZ reports.

In the parking lot of the "Idol" studios in front of onlookers, Bowersox told Seacrest that she hated the attention the show brought to her.

The camera shy Ohio native planned to return home to be with her family, including her son.

But Seacrest changed her mind.

"The greatest thing I ever did was make enough money so I could buy my mom a house," Seacrest told her. "You can buy your mom a house."

He added that being on the show was like starting a business and that a win would earn her millions and a recording contract.

Bowersox, a former busker, is miles ahead of the "Idol" competition thanks to her Janis Joplin-style vocals and her solid understanding of who she is.

Last month she had to leave the show briefly after being hospitalized for diabetes.
