Uganda: Idols Aids Local Kids
AS African Idols, a television reality musical talent search show, takes root this year, viewers of American Idol, the American franchise of the show, have recently donated $1m(sh1.7b) to Save The Children Uganda to assist thousands of vulnerable children in Uganda over the next three years.
These funds are part of an estimated $75 m(sh 127.5b) that was donated during a two-night fundraising special, Idol Gives Back, held on April 24-25, 2007 in the US.
In partnership with FOX Television and American Idol, the Charity Projects Entertainment Fund raised money to benefit children and young people living in poverty in the US and Africa.
In Africa, Save The Children received $6m (sh10.2b) to help provide basic health services to over 400,000 children in Ethiopia, Guinea, Malawi, Mali, Sudan and Uganda.
