"American Idol judges weigh in on Beatlemania
OUR "AMERICAN IDOL" Readers Judging Panel is off and running, and already there appears to be a wide divergence of opinions. Here's a cursory rundown of their thoughts on last week's performances and their expectations for tonight's show (8 p.m., Channels 2 and 40). Thoughts on last week: With the singers having access to arguably the greatest songbook in the history of rock, I expected more. I was glad to see Jason and Brooke have solid performances.
Looking ahead: I expect Chikezie to continue his Taylor Hicks-style upbeat antics as this is his only hope of advancing far. I don't think Jason will break out of his Jack Johnson vibe yet. I also hope to understand what Amanda Overmyer is saying.
Rob Miller, 46, Oakland
Thoughts on last week: It was hard for me because I'm not a Beatles fan. The stock is going up for: Chikezie, Carly Smithson, David Cook, Brook and Amanda. Stock going down: Syesha Mercado, Ramiele Mulabay, Kristy Lee Cook, David Archuleta.
Looking ahead: Since they're doing Lennon/McCartney again, I boldly predict I'm going to be bored to tears. I also predict strong bounce-back performances from Mercado and Archuleta.
